Birgit Pichler is an Austrian photographer who lives and works in Innsbruck (ATU). She works for various clients, including VOGUE, advertising agencies, tourism associations. She photographs architecture, landscapes, products. And mostly people. She proceeds like a craftsman. The light, the space and the camera technology are their tools. Birgit Pichler likes to work analog. She is modeling her objects and emphasizes the beautiful, underlines her character. Showing the essentials. Inspired by her father, she learned to handle with the camera and have been all over the world. For more than a year she traveled the ocean with a ship, photographed passengers and landscapes in Europe, America, the Caribbean, the South Seas, or Russia. Assisted various international well-known photographers. With her future husband, who was also a photographer, she worked in India, Australia, Mauritius and traveled to many other countries. "Death" was always a main theme for her. A topic that she won't let go and that she deals with from different perspectives. Also in her current master thesis, her main theme is post-mortem photography. Pichler teaches young photographers and is currently studying image sciences at the Donau University in Krems.

Pichler's upcoming exhibition can be seen from December 14th, 2021 to January 23rd, 2022 in the New Art Salon Foundation Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

"We live in a consumer and throwaway society, in abundance and striving for perfection. With my exhibition, I want to draw attention to the beauty of the things that we throw away and call garbage. I give them meaning again. The objects on display are all found along the way. "
